Description of the Tour:
This trip will lead us to the southern part of Latvia. An hour’s drive from Riga lies the fabulous Rundāle Palace – 18th-century summer residence of the last Dukes of Courland. This baroque pearl was the Duke’s idea of his little Versailles with a lavish interior and a magnificent French garden, created by Russia's court architect F.B.Rastrelli. Throughout its history, the palace has changed hands numerous times, ravaged during several wars leaving not much more than bare walls after World War II, and has been restored to its full splendor from a scratch. The only such palace in the Baltics, it is an absolute must for anyone visiting the region. The palace also boasts a magnificent rose garden, which is particularly gorgeous during blooming season end of June/beginning of July.
During summer season Rundāle often hosts early music concerts and festivals – please send an inquiry for dates.
Visit the local beer brewery, Bauskas alus.
