Description of the tour:

Did you know that Riga is considered to be the birthplace of the decorated Christmas tree? Indeed, it is a more than 500 years old tradition here. We’ll start our signature Christmas tour in the place of the first Christmas tree, as well as explore the Christmas market enjoying a mug of aromatic hot balsam drink (or the non-alcoholic version of it). We will also see the most picturesque landmarks of Riga, as we move along the Christmas Tree Trail – an annual festival of Christmas-tree-inspired art installations. We’ll finish the tour in the Art Nouveau district with a masterclass of gingerbread.

Description of the tour:

Embark on an unusual journey – take a train ride to the second largest city of Latvia on the south-east border of Latvia and delve into a completely different world. After a 3,5-hour ride, you will be met by the local guide in Daugavpils and continue to a city tour completed by a visit to local šmakovka museum with tasting. Evening at leisure – we’ll provide you with recommendations. On the next day after breakfast, the local guide will take you to Mark Rothko museum followed by guided tour in the fortress. Afternoon at your leisure before taking the evening train back to Riga.

Description of the tour:
 
This trip will lead us to the southern part of Latvia. An hours drive from Riga lies the fabulous Rundāle Palace – 18th-century summer residence of the last Dukes of Courland. This baroque pearl was the Duke’s idea of his little Versailles with a lavish interior and a magnificent French garden, created by Russia's court architect F.B.Rastrelli. Throughout its history, the palace has changed hands numerous times, ravaged during several wars leaving not much more than bare walls after World War II, and has been restored to its full splendor from a scratch. The only such palace in the Baltics, it is an absolute must for anyone visiting the region. The palace also boasts a magnificent rose garden, which is particularly gorgeous during blooming season end of June/beginning of July.

Half an hour away from the hustle and bustle of Riga lies the charming spa town Jūrmala with its 33 km long white sand beaches, elegant aristocratic villas, spa hotels, and fresh air. This is the largest seaside resort in the Baltic States with 200-year long traditions – formerly popular with the aristocracy and the wealthier part of the population and nowadays with tourists from all over Europe. We’ll take a drive around the residential part of Jūrmala to see some of the stunning architecture and take a stroll along the 1km-long pedestrian street Jomas iela. You can also relax on the beach or take a glass of wine in any of the numerous cafes.

A mere 1-hour trip North-East from Riga lies Sigulda, a charming little garden town, also known as the administrative centre of Gauja National Park (largest in Latvia), the winter sports capital of Latvia due to its ski slopes and Bobsleigh and Luge Track and a source of inspiration for countless artists through centuries as well as hopeless romantics due to its dramatic landscape and medieval castles. This is an all-year-round destination, however, it’s at its prettiest in spring in full bloom or autumn when leaves are turning – this is when every self-respecting Latvian goes for a hike in the nature paths of Sigulda.
In this tour, we’ll visit the Turaida Museum Reserve, home to the medieval Turaida Castle, one of the symbols of Latvian independence movement of 1980s – the Folk song park, as well as one of the oldest wooden churches in Latvia.

Art Nouveau or Jugendstil is undoubtedly the pride of Riga. Despite both World Wars rampaging the city during the XX century, more than 800 buildings in this style have survived in the city making Riga the largest collection of Art Nouveau architecture in Europe. The history of Art Nouveau in Riga also tells a story of one of the largest expansions and development of the city, a time of unprecedented wealth and splendour, of progress and artistic liberty. In this tour, we’ll take a walk along some of the most famous Art Nouveau streets in the so-called Quiet Centre of Riga, take a peek at a typical upper-middle class family apartment of the turn of the century and have a coffee break matching the flamboyance of the era.
